Project Description
For Auckland International Airport's travel concierge smartphone app, I was crucial in the development of a number of initiatives and product features.

I helped develop the early versions of a cross-platform app powered by Cordova for the Auckland International Airport. I developed a backend API service in Laravel which exposed various third party services to the mobile app; from travel directions, car park bookings, notifications and travel reminders. During subsequent version releases I planned database migrations and updates and planned out upgrade and rollback processes to ensure a smooth transition between versions for users. I also implemented functionality to enable single-sign on and to sync app profile data between the server and the app to enable persistance if users deleted the app and re-downloaded it.
After launch I was responsible for the development of a concierge carparking trial involving Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and additional third party APIs. This involved low level communication with the beacons to detect the user's location and to activate the carpark barrier arm. It was developed for both iOS and Android devices and used third party plugins to communicate with the various beacons actively to trigger connected hardware services, and passively in the background for wayfinding. With this trial customers could book a concierge carpark and have the concierge staff be notified when the customer was arriving or departing so they could greet them at the gate during pickup or dropoff.
Later in the app's lifecycle I provided consultation services with the Airport's IT services team to bridge the gap between the app, various integrations and third party developers and providers to support the premiere of their Strata Club loyalty programme.

The version currently available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Stores has some of the described functionality deprecated or removed and the current public ratings are not indicative of the original project features).
